Is Boneworks on Oculus Quest 2

As virtual reality (VR) technology continues to evolve, gaming enthusiasts are constantly on the lookout for the latest and most immersive experiences. One such game that has garnered attention is Boneworks, developed by Stress Level Zero. This action-adventure VR game is praised for its physics-driven gameplay and highly interactive environments. Oculus Quest 2, developed by Oculus, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, is one of the most popular standalone VR headsets on the market. This brings us to the question: Is Boneworks available on Oculus Quest 2?

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Boneworks itself is not natively available on the Oculus Quest 2. However, there are workarounds to play Boneworks on the Oculus Quest 2 by connecting it to a VR-ready PC.

Why Isn’t Boneworks Natively Available on Oculus Quest 2?

Boneworks is a highly detailed and physics-intensive game. The Oculus Quest 2, being a standalone headset, doesn’t possess the processing power of a gaming PC, which is required to handle the high-fidelity graphics and physics calculations of Boneworks.

How to Play Boneworks on Oculus Quest 2 Using a VR-Ready PC

Even though Boneworks isn’t available natively on Oculus Quest 2, you can still play it by connecting your Quest 2 to a VR-ready PC using Oculus Link. Here’s how:

Step 1: Check Your PC’s Specifications

Ensure that your PC meets the minimum requirements for running Boneworks. This includes having a suitable graphics card, processor, and sufficient RAM.

Step 2: Get a Compatible Cable

To connect your Oculus Quest 2 to your PC, you’ll need a high-quality USB 3 cable. You can use the official Oculus Link cable or any high-quality USB 3 Type-C cable.

    Step 3: Enable Oculus Link

    • Start by connecting your Oculus Quest 2 to your PC using the cable.
    • Put on your headset, and in the VR interface, you should see a prompt asking if you want to enable Oculus Link.
    • Select ‘Enable’ to enter the Oculus Link mode, which will allow you to access PC VR content.

    Step 4: Launch Boneworks

    • Once Oculus Link is enabled, you can access the Oculus Rift dashboard through your Oculus Quest 2.
    • Launch SteamVR through the Virtual Desktop in the Oculus Rift dashboard.
    • After launching SteamVR, you can open Boneworks through your Steam library and start playing it on your Oculus Quest 2.

    An Alternative: Project 4

Stress Level Zero has announced a project known as Project 4, which is said to be set in the Boneworks universe and is being developed specifically for the Oculus Quest platform. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, there were no official release dates for Project 4, but it is something to keep an eye on if you’re a fan of Boneworks and own an Oculus Quest 2.

    Conclusion

While Boneworks is not natively available on Oculus Quest 2, you can still enjoy the game by connecting your headset to a VR-ready PC via Oculus Link. Additionally, keep an eye out for Project 4, which promises to bring the Boneworks universe to the Oculus Quest platform. As the VR landscape is rapidly evolving, it’s always good to stay updated with the latest developments.
