Speed Camera Myths Busted! 12 Truths Which Could Stop You from Getting A Fine

Many false theories are surrounding the use of speed camera and most times people fall victims of the law when they believe these myths about the safety measures. Many motorists have been apprehended and fined after being caught by speed cameras placed all over the UK. Road safety and responsible driving have been promoted since the use of this device, but some drivers still break the rules. Many theories have been churned out to describe the work of speed cameras but the majority of them are nothing but myths. These false theories have been carefully examined to sensitize drivers on facts about the working systems of these speed cameras. Some of the facts include:

#1: Some speed cameras are switched off; not all cameras work (TRUE)

Speed cameras are highly recommended for catching a high number of speeding drivers but unfortunately, not all of them work or fully operate in the UK. Those non-functional speed cameras should be restored because this device is highly effective for tracking speed violators far better than a policeman using mobile cameras would do.

#2: You only get caught when you speed at least 10% plus 2mph of the limit? (Not so TRUE)

The NPCC (National Police Chiefs Council, formally ACPO, and Association of Chief Police Officers) has debunked a fallacy that drivers should receive a speeding ticket once they exceed the speed limit on the road, even if it is by 1mph. This false law has been carried by many motorists but the truth is prosecution can only be enacted when a driver exceeds the speed limit by 10%, plus 2mph. However, this guidance does not necessitate the intentional breaking of the speed limit. In fact, officers are still free to act based on their discretion because the guidance is not legally entrenched.

#3: The camera won’t detect you if you slow down and speed up immediately (Depends on the camera)

Generally, breaking speed limit is highly dangerous and drivers ought to drive to the condition of the road they are moving on.  As a matter of fact, it is not advisable to break the speed limit. This is the operation of the average speed cameras; they strongly deter drivers who go undetected by fixed cameras. And if you think cameras won’t detect you if you slow down and then speed up immediately, perhaps, you need to see Traffic Logix traffic speed cameras and change your mind.

#4: You can’t be detected if you drive really fast (FALSE)

This is so wrong. The only way the speed camera would not detect you is when you stick within the speed limit. The camera is triggered when a driver speeds beyond the limit.
