This season, we have two anime in Fate on our screens. One of them is Fate/Extra Final Encore, an intense SHAFT anime. The other is Today’s Menu For the Emiya Family, a monthly slice-of–life cooking spinoff. While many people may love Fate, some are still unfamiliar with it. I will give you an overview of Fate along with the various TV anime. I will also give you recommendations on how to watch them in the right order!

What is theFateseries?

In 2004, TYPE MOONThe R-18 PC visual story called “The Visual Novel” made its commercial debutFate/stay at night. It was the original source of theFateseries. A visual novel can be described as a computer game with text that is displayed on the monitor. The ‘visual’ part of a visual novel means that images of characters and backgrounds appear on-screen. You can also add sound effects to the background and even voice acting. You may be able to make some choices in the visual novel. The game may progress differently depending how you choose.Stay night at FateThere are three routes that you can choose from, each focusing on one heroine. These are the three main paths of the originalStay the night, FateThese are my suggestions:

TheFateRoute, which centers on Saber (this episode was adapted into the TV anime 2006Stay the night with Fate(

TheUnlimited Blade WorksRoute, which focuses upon Rin Tohsaka.Fate/stay Night Unlimited Blade WorksStudio Deen. In 2014-2015, Studio Ufotable adapted the TV anime into an OVA.

TheHeaven’s FeelingRoute, which focuses primarily on Sakura Matou.A movie trilogy based on the story.by ufotable. This movie will be the first to be released on October 2017,

In 2005, Fate/hollow ATaraxia was released as a sequel. A Fate/staynight version without the sex scenes was also released in 2007. Many spin-offs including novels, manga, anime, and novellas set in alternate universes and timelines have been released since the Fete series.

The Holy Grail: A Fierce Battle

One thing that unites almost all work in theFateseries together is known as a battle Royal. The Holy Grail War. The Holy Grail can grant any wish. The Holy Grail Wars are usually centered around seven.MastersThe Holy Grail was chosen by the sevenServantsThey summon. Each Servant can summon.Heroic SpiritThey are often based off historical or legendary figures like William Shakespeare, Hercules, King Arthur, or Hercules. However, their names are most commonly used to refer to them as the class they belong to.

There are seven classes: Saber. One Master can contract one Servant, and the battle continues.

Most of the works in Fate are based around these wars. This makes them full of conflict and bloodshed.

What is so special about theFateHow do you describe series?

It is a battle of people who fight for their beliefs. It is difficult to persevere.

Every master has a wish and they fight for it. Shirou Emiya the protagonist of Fate/stay-night is a young man who wants to save a lot. On the other side, masters who seek to defeat the participants also wish; a strong desire enough to risk their lives. Shirou enjoys being tangled up in the wishes and difficulties of others. There is no happily ever after. Even if the desire is evil or self-serving, their faith in the fight is shown so faithfully that it really should be something to look out for.

Another highlight are the battle scenes. In battle, the Servants use weapon called Noble Phantasms(written with the kanji ‘Treasures.’ They can be spears or swords. The weapon however is usually a servant. The camerawork follows the live battle closely, making the audience feel that they are actually fighting alongside the characters.

(Note: Prisma Illya, the latest spin-off, is in its very own special category. She is a magical girl addition for the Fate franchise.

Pay attention to the bonds between Master & Servant. There are many different types of relationships. It’s interesting to observe them all and learn if they’re a use-and/or-not relationship.

Gen Urobuchi is involved heavily in the Fate series. He wrote the Fate/Zero light fictions, which are a prequel of Fate/stay night. __S.94__ Gen Urobuchi, who is also known for Puella Magi Madoka Magica as well as PSYCHO-PASS and other works, is a noted author. These series are not spoilers, but I will let you know if you have watched them.

Spin-Off series

Some series venture into completely new genres.

Additionally, the following anime airs monthly:

Web animeToday’s Emiya Family Dinner

This manga is based upon a slice from life cooking manga with the Fate/stay Night characters. The manga was written by TAa, and its recipes were supervised by Makoto Tano. The animation of the series is done by ufotable.

This animated episode is a little more different than other animated entries. It doesn’t have any focus on Holy Grail War. We follow Shirou and Saber along with other characters in Fate/Stay Night while they enjoy home-cooked meals. Every episode features a unique recipe that Shirou explains to the viewers in an easy-to-understand way. You may enjoy the anime more if you know the characters well, but it is still worth a look for anyone who has zero Fate knowledge about Japanese cooking.

Today’s Emiya Family does not represent the first non-serious anime spin-off in the Fate franchise. The OVAs that comprised the anime Carnival Phantasm, were released in 2011 and 2012. Carnival Phantasm emphasizes comedy and slapstick. This anime features characters not only from Fate/Stay Night (a visual novel released before Fate/Stay Night). I’d say that this is targeted more at Type-Moon-lovers than those who are just starting to learn about the franchise.

So in what order should I watch it then?

The order of the works chronologically is as follows: Fate/Zero Fate/stay up all night (including Unlimited Blade Works & Heaven’s Feel), Fate/EXTRA. The settings are, however, vaguely different.

Here’s my recommendation if this is your first time watching.

First viewing of the TV anime Death/stay night at Unlimited Blade Works.

Then watch Fate/Zero

After that it doesn’t make a difference! / Zero is 10 years ahead of / stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. While this is not the chronological order of events, it helps to see the rules of our world.

Grand Order/Grand Order – is more backtracking. It was broadcast on a special series in 2016; only the prologue has been adapted into an animated anime.

The side story Prisma Illya can be enjoyed as a totally different work. It has a different setting and pace, so I recommend watching it after Unlimited Blade Works and Zero. __S.151__

Although it may seem difficult, the title list is much simpler if you start with Unlimited Blade Works. The world’s rules and what they are trying depict are easy to grasp.

You can watch the Fate/Apocrypha if your goal is to create a self-contained series. __S.154__ However, it might be difficult for some to understand the story at first. So if you are going to buy Fate/stay at night, I recommend that you watch Unlimited Blade Works while you wait. Fate is a long-running show that is beloved by hardcore fans. However you can jump right into the alternate universe anime Fate/Apocrypha or Fate/ Extra Last Encore!
